Northern District Quiz Night

The Northern District of the Cumbria Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs held a Quiz Night on Wednesday 9th August 2023 at The Greenhill Hotel, Wigton. The event was organised by the Northern District Chair Abigail Graham and her Vice Chair Ella Batey.

Northern District President Mrs Gillian Potts was the evenings Question Master, with the questions for the night being set by Abigail and Ella.

A total of 16 teams competed, answering a variety of questions including countryside knowledge, music, crisp tasting, and a final buzzer round for the top four.  At the end of a very fun evening, the scores were finally in and the results were as follows;

1st - Simps & Sups

2nd - The Real Wigtoners

3rd - Robbie’s Angels

Last - Fab Four

The main purpose of the event was to raise money for the Dragonfly Cancer Trust and The Northern District of Cumbria YFC as part of Abigail and Ella’s Sahara Desert Trek, which they will be conducting in November.  

Dragonfly Cancer Trust works with specialist cancer treatment centres, hospitals, hospices and families across the UK providing support for young patients with terminal cancer who receive palliative treatment.

The Northern District of Cumbria YFC consists of 15 Young Farmers Clubs that encourage their members to take part in activities, competitions and fundraise in their local community. Young Farmers is a rural youth community group which is led by young people, for young people. Young Farmers' Clubs provide anyone aged 10 to 28 with a fantastic chance to meet lifelong friends, learn new skills, make a real difference to the local community and even travel the world!

Abigail and Ella will trek 50km across the Sahara Desert in November to raise money for both of these charities. During the day the temperatures will reach in excess of 35 degrees and at night the temperatures drop significantly to around 0 degrees - they might even camp wild in the desert under the stars one night!
