At the NFYFC's 91st AGM, Nigel Owens MBE was re-elected as the NFYFC's President for a fourth year.

Former international rugby referee Nigel Owens MBE has been elected as the President for The National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC) for a fourth year.

Nigel was unanimously re-elected by the membership during NFYFC’s 91st Annual General Meeting, which was held in Leamington Spa on 23 April 2023.

Nigel, who was first elected during the pandemic in 2020, will continue to represent more than 23,000 YFC members throughout England and Wales in his role as President.

A former member of Llanarthne YFC, Nigel has also previously held the role of president of the Wales Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs. Nigel was brought up and lives in Carmarthenshire and is a Welsh language speaker. Before becoming a professional rugby union referee his career included working on a farm and a youth worker. Recently he has rekindled his farming career and farms near Llanelli.

In the 2016 Birthday Honours, Nigel was appointed a Member of the Order of British Empire (MBE) for services to sport and is a fellow of Cardiff University. Nigel is the current world record holder for most test matches refereed. He is also a TV presenter, hosting shows on S4C (Welsh language TV channel). Nigel said:

“I’m honoured to be elected as NFYFC’s President for another year. I’m proud to represent such an incredible organisation that supports the development of rural young people.

“It’s an exciting time for Young Farmers’ Clubs as membership numbers are growing and we have a new generation joining and shaping our future. I hope they all get as much out of this organisation as I did when I was a member.

“I look forward to seeing more YFC members throughout the year and hearing about their YFC journey!”
