Six teams gathered at The George Hotel on Thursday 16th February to compete in the County final of the Inter Brainstrust Competition.
Competitors showed great skill in talking about topics which included; Brexit, the compulsory purchase of farm land, the use of renewable energy, the Cattle Herd Accreditation Scheme, childhood vaccinations, Donald Trump, rewilding of the uplands and national security.
The competing teams talked with confidence and knowledge, sharing their individual views on the topics and questioning the views of their team mates. The judges, Mr Alec Smith and Mr Craig Norman commended the teams on their debating skills and commented on how much they had enjoyed the evening.
The Lowick A YFC team of Alice and Will Longmire, Esther Lambert and Ruth Cooper were placed a well deserved first. Second place went to Longtown YFC and third place went to Caldbeck YFC. All three teams now go onto compete at the Northern Area Weekend hosted by Yorkshire YFC on the 25th and 26th February.
