The County Final of the Young Farmers Entertainment Competition was held at the Theatre-by-The-Lake, Keswick with Brampton, Crook, Drigg, Sedbergh, Raughton Head and Kent Estuary YFCs taking part.
Judges Tracy Swan and Carol Donockley said that they had enjoyed all the performances and everyone should be proud of the standard they had achieved.
Raughton Head YFC were presented with the winning trophy for their Entertainment set in an airport and entitled “Prepare to take off.” The passengers were conducted to their seats by a dancing troupe of air hostesses and we were then entertained by the antics of the baggage handlers, airport security and wing walkers. The judges commended Rachael Beatty for her solo performance of “Leaving on a jet plane” and George Mitchinson for his comedy performance as a security guard.
Crook YFC were placed second with “Zoo” where roles were reversed and the monkeys were observing the antics of the humans . Tom Redmayne was awarded the best actor trophy and was particularly commended for his professionalism in keeping in character throughout the play.
In 3rd place Kent Estuary YFC transported us to Wigglesworth Working Men’s Club Annual Talent Show with hosts Trevor the bingo caller and Bob the bin man . The packed audience especially enjoyed the male synchronised swimming team and Wigglesworth Girl guides.
The best actress award was given to Emily Jenkinson for her portrayal of a hard of hearing W.I. member in Drigg’s hilarious portrayal of a W.I. meeting entitled “The Wild Indians” . The judges also praised Makayla Brash for her beautiful singing.
Raughton Head, Crook and Kent Estuary now go through to the Northern Area YFC Entertainment Final at Longridge High School, Longridge, Preston on 1st and 2nd March.
